Deneys, through partner Mark Griffiths, advised on the African aspects of TotalEnergies’ agreement with Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec to acquire 100% of its subsidiary, SN Power.
SN Power holds interests in renewable hydropower projects in Africa through a joint venture with Norfund and British International Investment (BII). Subject to customary conditions, the transaction will result in TotalEnergies acquiring a 28.3% interest in the Bujagali hydropower plant in Uganda, which supplies more than 25% of the country’s peak electricity demand, as well as minority stakes in renewable hydropower projects under development in Rwanda and Malawi.
Mark Griffiths led Deneys’ South African input within the broader cross-border legal team, advising on complex energy and infrastructure considerations arising from the transaction’s African footprint. The deal highlights Deneys’ capability in supporting multinational clients on sophisticated, multi-jurisdictional energy and infrastructure transactions across the continent.
With deep experience in infrastructure, natural resources and cross-border M&A, Deneys continues to act on strategically significant projects that shape Africa’s evolving energy landscape.
